2010 in music.

In no random order, these are the albums of 2010 that has provided me much reasons to grab a hairbrush and sing along; air-guitar like crazy and do high kicks to the beat of the drum. All without a scratch.

Speak Now

Taylor Swift's Speak Now album is a guessing game and it's a fun one too. Based on rumors (yes, because I'm too lazy doing my own research *wink), I've paired up the songs with its said to be lovers or hater. For instance, Mine=Cory Monteith; Innocent=Kanye West; Dear John=John Mayer; Back To December=Taylor Lautner; The Story Of Us=Joe Jonas. Whether or not it's true, it's one heck of a game.

Musically speaking, it still has its fairy-tale country way of relating the songs for her fans. Some of the songs are very moving too, it sends shivers down the spine and keeps shattered hearts shattered for the heartbroken (listen to Last Kiss, Enchanted, Haunted, If This Was A Movie and Dear John at your own risk). There's a dose of dragons, sparks, enchantment and revenge as well. I like how some of the lyrics are so frank like in Enchanted, there's a line that goes "please don't be in love with someone else"; In Better Than Revenge, another goes "i'm just another thing for you to roll your eyes at honey". It's like she's implicitly telling us to speak our mind through songs. You go Taylor!

I had a terrible day the other day, I was asked to wait for my turn so that my lecturer and I can go one-and-one with my Speaking classes. I waited for 4 hours. I decided to leave and walk out from all the waiting but then the receptionist told me that it was already my turn so yeaaaaahhhh... now she calls me. tsktsk

When I got home, my frown turned upside down when I got news from my MCRmy family that the new My Chemical Romance video is out. For some of those who aren't in the know, I'm a huge fan of this band. If I don't post about fashion, music or my day, I talk about them because their music makes me swell up with joy.

My twitter was on full blast spamming about the epic parts of the video which are: frank's wink, mikey's karate, ray's bottle breaking, gerard's shmexy lightstick look. I could hardly concentrate on anything else. I am so stoked for their album, tour, merches. I have to be in their concert this time. :D

There's bound to be one band/ musician that you guys love the most, mine is them. How bout you?

I can't believe I actually made a post title combining 3 album titles. Awesomesauce!

Time for some musical review. I can't tell you how much I value my music collection. I currently have 4,374 songs = 26.95 GB in my iTunes and counting. So here are 3 albums that have been on repeat lately.

 Linkin Park- A Thousand Suns

Rating: A-

Favorites: When They Come For Me, Wretches And Kings, Iridescent

There's less screaming in Chester's part which is good coz I can finally hear his voice especially in The Messenger track. They still have Mike's wicked rhymes and Mr. Hahn's electric auto tune feel. They even added some ethnic feel and powerful messages on the entirety of their album. 

 Maroon 5- Hands All Over

Rating: B+

Favorites: Stutter, Never Gonna Leave This Bed, Hands All Over

From their previous albums up to now, there's one single element that still keeps me hooked. I have no idea what that is yet but it keeps my foot tapping all the time. But from their all too familiar rhythms, sometimes I feel like I've heard this before.

The Black Keys- Brothers

Rating: A-
Favorites: Tighten Up, Sinister Kid, Howlin' For You

After hearing about them in the Twilight's Eclipse soundtrack and then seeing their Tighten Up video, I just have to dig more on their music. I am impressed how different they are. They are old rock and blues blended into one.

One more thing, MTV asked and we, and by we, I meant the MCRmy, have answered. :) That's just how we roll.

She is now my new favorite pet. After hearing her track in the Eclipse OST ( Florence + The Machines- Heavy In Your Arms) which is eerily appealing, I have grown to love her cool, unconventional, soothing voice. I can't even categorize her music genre 'coz her music is out of the box. She makes a mark with her riveting lyrics. The Lungs album was released in 2009, mainstream or not, she's a talent!

You may wonder why I address the band as a "she"? It's because 'Florence and the Machine (sometimes stylised as Florence + the Machine) is the recording name of English pop artist Florence Welch and a collaboration of other artists who provide backing music for her voice.' -Wikipedia

Impressive. So visually appealing not just because Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan portrayed a bitter sweet relationship but because it pierces straight through the hearts.

The collaboration between Eminem and Rihanna itself tells a story about what their relationships had been in the past. What a genuine track.

Okay so I may have tweeted that New Moon OST is better than the Eclipse OST, but after countless play counts on my iTunes and actually really listening to it, I may have come to realize the fact that the latest soundtrack for the Twilight Saga is actually bearable and really very good. I may be biased because Muse is in every album but Muse aside, I've really come to admire a different side of music.The un-mainstream, indie bands with a mind blowing talent that makes me wonder why they haven't gone platinum yet. Praises to Florence and the machine, The Black Keys and Sia.

I'd give this album a B+.
I wonder how the Breaking Dawn soundtrack will come about. I hope it will be quite as good (with Muse in it too) *cough*

Is it me or are almost all of my favorite Indie bands are following me lately?

I love that I love indie. The mainstream ones have too much exposure anyway (i still love the mainstreams, you know who you are *wink). So if the Indies get the exposure then they'll be mainstream indies. Noooooo! :D

The Scottish have the most luring accents. I went to church one Sunday and a Scottish priest was conducting the mass. I was closing my eyes and listening intently to his accent and silently mimicking it. Hoping that nobody noticed, I enjoyed his R's, O's and L's. You know how Scotts always does it. Top of da morning to ya! and the like..haha

It was a joy to have heard him. I know where to go next time to hear mass.

Closer to the Edge

I've been a huge 30 Seconds to Mars fan all my life. I know the Echelons and MCRmy are two different musical cults but both their music slams all our prejudices down.

As for 30STM, the release of their second video from their This Is War album, Closer To The Edge, has proven how much heart they put into every concert. The music I hear is merely the pictures that I keep playing on my head. It's visual feast for the soul.

Diane Birche's Bible Belt delivers a wave of good mood and her solid beautiful voice encompasses the whole package. I am so impressed with her musical style. I can't even classify which genre her music belongs to. :D
'Valentino' keeps my smile going from ear to ear. Okay so there might be a hint of sadness in some tracks but that's what music is all about, emotions. 'Fire Escape' gives me the chills. Her lyrics are very well-structured and strikes straight to the heart. It would be selfish of me as a fan if her music isn't recognized.  I don't want her to go mainstream but then again her talent has to be known. 

Favorite: to pick only one favorite is an insult to her whole album.

My friends don't know who she is nor have they heard her music. I was so ecstatic when I followed her on twitter and she followed back. She keeps it down to earth with her fans. Nice!

Diane Birch is definitely a diamond in the rough.

This album is true to its beats. I'm really impressed with all the variety. And the delivery is smooth.
I enjoyed every track, most expecially Bet I, Satellites, Higher, The Kids, Airplanes and Past My Shades.
I could hear myself attempting to even rap it. But I'm simply contended with the music. This is a great venture for a fresh face like B.o.B., I foresee great things.

You can't not like this album.

I don't know why but they remind me of Beastie Boys, only ten times funnier, genious lyrics and with a satire-ish style that is hilarious. Their videos are just down right internet sensations almost always getting about 8million+ views every time (Jizz In My Pants has 81 MIL views) . The lyrics may be way too explicit for me though. I like the collaboration with other artists like Jack Black, Norah Jones, Julian Casablancas, Chris Parnell, Justin Timberlake and most especially Natalie Portman. Her mouth is WOAAAHH!


It's comedy in a music video. They give you something to talk about and have it repeated. This is their first album and so far it's an A+ for me!

HAVE YOU BEEN VOTING MY PRETTIES? Well, we all better get carpal tunnel since they are now up against Muse. Which is a big deal, since Muse equates to the whole European continent. (and you know how many countries there are in there?)

This is hard for me since I have really grown to like Muse. In the absence of MCR, Muse has been there lately. The day I discovered their music was the only time I realized that their every song gives me the goosebumps. But then again, my loyalty is for MCR.

I know, I know I'm going through much trouble debating as to who is better but that's me. A mental musical debate is just what I need. I don't need to explain how much I love MCR. I've just been like that for the past 3 1/2 years I guess.

Hi Mr. Mad Hatter, you plaster your face with a smile and I want to squeeze that cheeks of yours and say "Johnny baby". Okaaaayyy.....and on with the review! haha! *awkward*

The tracks are 70% dark and 30% happy and light. The first listen would grip you. The second listen will hook you. And the third will tie you down. I really like all the tracks, there's a variety and yet a similarity in lyrics such as "Off with her head" and "Alice" (well, it is about Alice in Wonderland, no shocker there). They produced a line up of the mainstream artists (which I like!) and produced new name bands that I haven't heard of yet (which I still like!). If you listen in closely, there's so much humor in Very Good Advice' by Robert Smith.

Dang nabbit it would be hard to pick a favorite so here is my top 3:
