i put a photograph inside the frame of my heart

Just tinkering with a friend's Hasselblad 500c/m, 80mm f/2.8 at a studio. I wish I can use one of these for real and not be scared of shooting with film. The first time I used a film camera, it was an utter fail. I had my mother load the film for me because I had no idea how to. When I had it developed, it turned out that the whole roll of film was actually blank because it wasn't loaded properly. D'oh! It was pretty silly of me clicking around with it the whole time but at least I kind of got a refund.

But alas! I should really not be in fear whether I waste film on film cameras because you never know it might turn out really good.

Hard to believe we only had film cameras now that everyone uses digital I kind of miss them...the excitement of not knowing what your pictures look like until they are developed.

I understand you so well, the same thing happened to me when I first started to use film! I always asked the guy working at the photo shop to load the film for me at first, and explained it to me..it does help :P

ohhh hasselblad, my dream camera. film takes practice for sure. esp if you haven't grown up w/ it. medium format has always been difficult for me. my fave to shoot w/ is a 4x5, but those just aren't very convenient. :P

While I love shooting with film (I could help you to load your cam properly, it's really easy once you got the hang of it!), but digicams are so much more practical because you can always check how the photos turned out & don't have to wait.

Thank you very much for the comment on my blog :-) Would you like to follow eachother? I'd love to, your blog is great!

Dressing Up For Me said...

I don´t know how to load a film either! I just ask the person in the photo shop to load it for me, lol! That´s why I always prefer the digi cam, you only have to click, upload the pictures on the computer and tha´s it. ;)

Great camera! I'm using some Lomography camera by the way, and do not ever believe the "don't think just shoot" tagline.
You also need to read the manual book, I've tried without thinking and it ended up pretty sad the whole results of my film was a total crap
Dare to shoot with film, I'm dying to see it :)

These photos are really fun.
I know what you mean about film. I just found an old 35mm and I'm going to try it. I really hope the photos turn out!

Oh and you visited my blog and asked me about Project 52. Well it is taking one photo a week for a year. Of course some weeks I take more, but one the weeks where I don't, it reminds me to take at least one. It's much less pressure than taking one every day.
Thanks for visiting! You have a very nice blog!

Is that first photo your room? Love it! Never shot with film cameras before so good job that you did! I think film photos have such a unique quality about them that DSLRs can never capture. We had a professional photographer who shoots with a Canon film camera that came to give a talk at our local camera club. And his photos were just out of this world. Takes such skill to get your settings JUST right as well because there's not much room for editing after. Unlike DSLRs with RAW files etc. Sorry, rambling too much now, will stop here lol.

That wall is amazing! You take awesome pictures! You have serious talent, girly! How about following each other? I love your photo style.

i had the same exact experience in one of my photography classes...DSLRS were not as popular then so we used the traditional SLRs. The minute i wound the film, i knew something was wrong! Took photos anyway, even took a short trip for it. Then come dark room day and all my films were blank...lol! But nothing beats the excitement of seeing your photos the first time after development. I miss dark room days!

Looks like an amazing set up! Heheh oh I'd be hopeless too! I am actually on the look out for a nice really old film camera though...

Woww, I am SO jealous of your friend's set-up there! I too was intimdated by film for awhile, but I got my hands on a cheap film SLR and I love it! My first roll of film wasn't totally exposed, but I messed up unloading it and lost a lot of frames >_< It's so much fun shooting film though because the results are so unexpected!
